<description>Art gathered from the Yerf Historical Archive. Most of this is pretty old. I have been trying to update many of the descriptions, but haven't been successful (I keep getting a bug report).</description>

      <title>Yerf: syn-4will_sanborn.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Thank-you pic for the gifted writer (and great guy) Will A. Sanborn. I was going for more of an old-fashioned illustration look than total realism. Though I LOVE to see all different kinds, this is more of the way I draw anthro-animal art when I'm drawing for myself - mostly animal but with a bit of a personality. RSVP pen, pencil, bit of Photoshop on embossed-frame invite card.

      <title>Yerf: syn-biglionpondering.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Big Lion Pondering (for Fang, Claw &amp; Steel magazine). I had my husband sit for this, but I slimmed the arms down. I tried to do a different body type than my usual "super-chiseled-muscles" male. Mostly mechanical pencil, with some grey tones added in Photoshop 7.

      <title>Yerf: syn-easterninfluenceiv.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Inspired by the Far Eastern Asian and Indian artwork I'd been looking at; these were swimming around in my head for a while. The lower right is sort of like a feline Kuan Yin. The upper left (in the caftan) is hand-less on purpose (I see it as a sort of spirit or... something). Oh, and I do like elephants! I made up the ornamentation on him.

      <title>Yerf: syn-hellcat_head.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Originally intended to be a decal for my truck, the color and lighting are flat and rather non-directional in the style of other car decals I've seen. She has 2 extra front teeth per jaw for this particular piece, but that changes from time to time. It kind of reminds me of the "Medusa head" motifs you often see in ancient Greek and Roman art, or perhaps a doorknocker. Pencil, Photoshop.

      <title>Yerf: syn-leopardzine.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Leopard with a Magazine (she's reading Fang, Claw &amp; Steel). Pretty typical for me - she's mostly animal-like but has some humanoid features. Spot-wise, I started out being "accurate" but ended up doing my own thing (which is more fun for me). Mechanical pencil on Bristol. (I'm catching up with uploads here)

      <title>Yerf: syn-foxwoman.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Foxwoman for Fang, Claw &amp; Steel. This isn't supposed to be a typical portrait of a sexy vixen; this is an allegory, a symbol. Her dress is a shell barely containing the demon-spirit inside. Her hands are pawlike. The mask represents the human face she shows to the world. Pencil on cardstock, Photoshop gradient.

      <title>Yerf: syn-hyenabones.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Hyenabones - originally this was a pen scribble. What was meant to be an underpainting ended up being a finished piece. This was a fun experiment, though obviously this thing couldn't exist. RSVP pen, watercolor, gouache on bristol. (from earlier this year)

      <title>Yerf: syn-sunstealer.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Sun-Stealer: A jaguar-man removes an orb representing the sun from Huehueteotl's fire brazier. He sits in front of an Olmec "were-jaguar" carving. Is he a trickster, a shapeshifter, or something much more? Micron pen, watercolors, gouache and colored pencils on watercolor paper. I tried a different, lighter kind of coloring/painting.

      <title>Yerf: syn-bloodiiv.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Bloodhound Omega ver. IV: the 4th of 4 pics I did for his creator. I drew what I saw in my mind's eye when I envisioned the character, and didn't worry about trying so hard to be realistic. All anatomy, details based on Bloodi's decription. Overall I tried to make it look sort of like a "sketch come to life", and left some of the sketchiness in on purpose.

<description>When I'm feeling under the weather, drawing one of my skull-demons usually cheers me up (or gives me something else to think about, at least). While stuck in traffic (I carpooled with my husband) I drew one on the back of a leftover invitation-card. At work the next day I added in a bit of shading in Photoshop CS.

      <description>Here is my Avatar/shakti, looking very stylized (w/symbolic wings, etc.). I DO like to draw &amp; see finished art, but I don't ALWAYS want or need to do smooth, detailed pieces myself. There are times when I WANT to draw dark and rough and scribbly, both because it helps set a mood, and because it just feels good to move the pencil around like that. Incidentally, I got married last Fall (why my last name changed). &lt;tt&gt;:)&lt;/tt&gt;

I USED to paint slowly and carefully, but lately I don't feel like being so worried about each and every brushmark (partly because of lack of time - I only have an hour or two a day for art, if I'm LUCKY), so I worked the whole thing quickly, all at once instead of concentrating on any one area. Pen, watercolor, gouache, bit of colored pencil.

<description>Nightmare VII: Drawn after a particularly horrendous day at work. NOTE: this is just MY version of a Nightmare; there's lots of ways to draw them. The eye is supposed to be an empty, shadow-less white - which may not make sense, but then, Nightmares usually don't. RSVP pen on cardstock, Photoshop 7 coloring.

<description>The Bribe: An African Climbing Mouse offers an earring to the Serval who's caught him; he's hoping she'll let him go (I'm a softie so I think she will - what do YOU think will happen?). She's a collector of jewelry, which here is a combination of many different African art and ornamentation styles. The neckpiece was the most fun to draw. Micron pen, colored pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Some Photoshop to fix the crappy scan.

<description>Tiger God III: A further exploration of an older "Tiger God" idea I'd done years back - I was inspired by Tibetan and Indonesian art. Micron pen, Prismacolor &amp; Design pencils, colorless blender, on parchment paper, with some touch-ups in Photoshop 7 to fix the bad scan.

      <title>Yerf: syn-tresspasser.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>The Tresspasser: An ocelot-man is caught tresspassing in another's territory. A departure for me; the anthros I draw for myself are usually quadrupeds, and much more animal than human in build. I wanted to practice drawing the human form and try an unusual pose, and also I was curious to see how an ocelot's coat pattern would look wrapped around a human figure. My fiance posed for me, but I slimmed the build up a bit; my guy is more muscular. Micron pen, colored pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes paper.

      <title>Yerf: syn-foxmagic2.jpg by Synnabar</title>
<description>Fox Magic II: The last of the three Asian-Inspired pieces I did. I used the other half of toned cardstock that I'd used for "SpiritFeatherPony". Drawn a few months back (along with SPF), and colored a few weeks ago. The original is much smoother-looking. The floating ball is something I've drawn for years, and here it symbolizes that the creature is magical, more spirit than animal. I also purposely did NOT make it look like a realistic, 100% anatomically true-to-life fox, to reinforce the idea that the creature is more than it appears. Colored pencils, Photoshop7 touch-up.
